M. Holland Believes in the Power of Giving Back Through Corporate Charity Program

The M. Holland team likes to demonstrate that they are the Gold Standard in Plastics in more ways than one. Through the recently formed Moving Forward Giving Back Corporate Giving Program, M. Holland is partnering with the Greater Chicago Food Depository to collect non-perishable food items and money to help those that are less fortunate. This is the second annual food drive.

Last year M. Holland collected 722 pounds of food and $500 in donations. With the organization growing, this year’s goal is 1500 pounds of food and $750 in donations. The team agrees the goal is ambitious, but everyone is committed to making a difference.

Supply Chain Specialist, Paulette Ciofani is one of the M. Holland employees that is leading the effort. “Everyone has a responsibility to give back. Regardless of the cause, a greater impact is made as a group and M. Holland has a wonderful group of people who are more than willing to help,” she states.

Moving Forward Giving Back – The Formation of M. Holland Community Outreach

Paulette has been very instrumental in launching Moving Forward Giving Back. It all started in the fall of 2014 with the idea of having a food drive. “Corporate giving programs are an opportunity to promote teamwork, raise awareness and bring people from a variety of backgrounds together for a common cause,” Paulette continues.

She felt strongly that with properly leveraged resources the M. Holland team could accomplish a great deal together. She was inspired by an e-mail that the company President and CEO Ed Holland sent last year. “He continues to move the company forward and I coupled that with the desire to give back on a corporate level.”

Not long after joining M. Holland in February 2011, she joined forces with other M. Holland employees who share a passion for volunteerism. They formed a small committee and started thinking about ways they could help the community. “I want to build a stronger sense of teamwork and cooperation and an understanding that regardless of your position within the company, we are a team.”

About the Greater Chicago Food Depository

The M. Holland team is particularly passionate about the Greater Chicago Food Depository because of the impact they have on the community. Ninety-three cents of every dollar donated goes towards supporting their programs. They distribute food through a network of 650 pantries, soup kitchens and shelters. “Not only do they provide food, but they also provide programs that are designed to help individuals break the cycle of poverty. I love that they empower the people they serve,” Paulette passionately states.

Creating a Charitable Corporate Culture

To Paulette and the entire M. Holland team, it’s tragic that anyone in this country should have to worry about where their next meal is coming from. To the corporate charity team, having a food drive was an easy decision.

New to the food drive this year is a competition among all of the departments. The department that collects the most food will receive a surprise gift. “It is fun to see everyone become so engaged about such a good cause.”

“I hope everyone realizes they can really make a difference in the lives of others. When you empower individuals, amazing things start to happen.”
While the corporate giving program is still in the building stages, the team hopes to have a fundraiser or volunteer event once per quarter in 2016.

The food drive launched a week ago and runs through December 18. With support of those in the office, the field sales force and warehouse everyone is confident about reaching the goal.
